Talk by Ruth Bourne
7:00pm for 7:30pm
“My experiences as a part of the chain of codebreakers at Bletchley Park”
This is an exceptional event with our guest speaker, Ruth Bourne, who will come to discuss her important work at Bletchley Park and her support during the war, using the code cracking Enigma Machine and the Bombe.
For 24 years Ruth has served as a guide at Bletchley Park, demonstrating the Enigma machine and the Bombe to visitors. In 2018, she was awarded the Legion d’Honneur.
This event is co-hosted by the International Lyceum Club of London and the Ognisko Polskie – The Polish Hearth Club.
Ruth Bourne, (nee Henry) volunteered for the Women’s Royal Naval Service (WRENs) aged 17. In 1944 after training in Scotland she was transferred HMS Pembroke V (a coded name for a section of Bletchley Park) to train as a Turing Bombe Operator. Having signed the Official Secrets Act, it was not until 1974 that knowledge of the Enigma programme became public and Mrs Bourne was able to acknowledge her time with Bletchley operations.
