CELLO RECITAL AT LEIGHTON HOUSE

Join us for a wonderful concert by cellist Guy Johnston, accompanied at the piano by William Vann, in the magnificent Leighton Studio House.

Felix Mendelssohn Cello Sonata No.1 in B flat Major, Op.45
Joseph Phibbs Cello Sonata
Gabriel Fauré Sonata No. 1 for Cello and Piano in D minor, Op. 109
Robert Schumann Adagio and Allegro, Op. 70
Guy Johnston’s memorable performance at the BBC Young Musician of the Year award in 2000 kick started a stellar international career as a soloist and chamber musician. He is now recognised as one of the most exciting and versatile British cellists of his generation. He is joined at the piano by William Van, multiple award-winning pianist, and chairman of the KCMS, for an unforgettable evening of music.
Leighton house
Leighton House is ‘the former home and studio of the leading Victorian artist Lord Frederic Leighton (1830-1896), a unique and unforgettable setting for music’. The guided tour will take you through the magnificent internal design, from the silk room to the Arabic Hall, inspired by Lord Leighton’s journeys in the middle East. Painter and President of the Royal Academy of Art, he built the house for his own artistic delight, to showcase his art but also his beautiful collections of ceramics and textiles.
